Fudgy Brownies

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter
3oz unsweetened chocolate - coarsely chopped
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup chopped almonds or pecans - optional

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  In a medium saucepan heat and stir butter and chocolate over low heat until smooth.  Remove from heat; let cool.

Meanwhile, grease an 8x8x2 inch or 9x9x2 inch pan; set aside.  Stir sugar into cooled chocolate mixture in saucepan.  Add the eggs, one at time, beating with a wooden spoon just until combined.  Stir in vanilla.

In a small bowl stir together the flour and baking soda.  Add flour mixture to chocolate mixture; stir just until combined.  If desired, stir in nuts.  Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan.

Bake about 30 minutes for and 8 inch pan and 25 minutes for a 9 inch pan.  Cool in pan on wire rack.


Makes:  16 brownies
